THERAPEUTIC APPROACH

Individual therapy

In my practice, I utilize Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) - ACT is an evidence-based therapy approach that helps people develop psychological flexibility and adapt to challenges in a productive way. ACT is based on the idea that pain, grief, and other negative experiences are a natural part of life. The goal is to learn to accept them rather than try to eliminate or avoid them. ACT is a behavioral and cognitive intervention that uses six core processes:

  • Acceptance: Accept emotions and feelings without trying to change them

  • Defusion: Separate yourself from your inner experiences and see thoughts as just thoughts

  • The now: Focus on the present moment

  • Self: Learn to see your thoughts about yourself as separate from your actions

  • Values: Identify what's important to you and motivate action

  • Committed action: Change your behavior based on your values

ACT is transdiagnostic, meaning it can be applied to a wide range of mental and physical conditions. It can be delivered in a variety of ways, including in-person, online, or through smartphone apps.

Couples/Relational Therapy

I am a Gottman-trained therapist, a research-based couples therapy approach that aims to strengthen relationships by improving communication, increasing intimacy, and building empathy:

  • Assessment

The therapy begins with an evaluation of the couple's relationship dynamics.

  • Interventions

The therapist uses research-based interventions to help the couple address problems and build skills.

  • Goals

The goals of the Gottman Method include:

    • Increasing intimacy, respect, and affection

    • Disarming conflicting communication

    • Removing barriers to healthy communication

    • Building a culture of admiration

    • Learning to manage perpetual conflicts
